Kate day

Hey all,

Kate day is right around the corner and we are starting to get e-mails repeating the same questions. Mostly asking can I pick up my Kate bottles early, or can I get my friend to pick up my bottles with my ticket. To make it fair for everyone there are no proxies allowed. The rule is two bottles per person, not two bottles per ticket. Each person is eligible to buy two bottles, whether they have one ticket or twenty. Also Kate, in bottles or off the tap, is not going to be sold until 1:14pm on the 9th.

Monday is going to be a great time! I am not staying that you should skip work or class for the day, but I am sure that it would be much more fun here then there.

Cheers,
Tyler

  1. Tyler, how long do you estimate she'll last on tap? I might not make it up there till next week.

PS - The IPA on Bourbon Oak Cask was exquisite, complete contrast!

  2. The last batch, in June 2008, lasted approx 3 days or so...

  3. You know I am a bit far away.....but given that my construction company hasn't it's own beer, don't you think you should save me one?

  4. Pretty much no chance in hell I'll get a bottle if I swing by tonight, huh? Oh well, I'll just have to enjoy it on tap. Can't wait!

  5. Hey, there was a big line at the brewery today. Were you guys giving away concert tickets or something? ;)

  7. I've just posted the winning entries for our First Annual Kate the Great Literary Contest on the Portsmouth Brewery's website:

  8. Peter... I hope some provision is made in the future so that your local, loyal, long-time clientele can get more than a whiff of Kate, or have to get up at 5AM to get a chance at a bottle or 2.

I'm sure you had a killer day, bottom-line wise, but the people who show up once a year don't make Portsmouth, it's your regulars!

    Prosit!!

  9. Yeah, I went by yesterday (Tuesday) evening to find that it was all gone in one day. Not talking about bottles here, just on tap. Last time, it lasted from Tuesday to Friday. This time, gone in less than a day.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. I certainly don't want to begrudge you all your awesome success with this beer - it's a great beer, and the big event last time was an exciting celebration. But at the same time, it seems to me that if loyal local customers are completely shut out in less than a day by people swarming in from hundreds of miles away who camp out all day long (on a weekday) on the sidewalk... Well, suddenly it's not as fun anymore. It's kinda sad, like a line got crossed somewhere. May I respectfully suggest, without sounding like a whiner, that the hype has gone about as far as it should go, and should be scaled back a bit next time?

Fortunately I had the Dubbel and Triple in which to drown my sorrows...

  10. Here! Here! A friend and I (regulars mind you) stopped in Tuesday evening for some of that fine brew only to be told it was gone. Imagine our disappointment and annoyance! This is my second time to have missed out.
Perhaps next time it should just be put out like every other beer (with out the overblown hoopla) so your loyal/local fans can have a reasonable chance to enjoy it.

  11. I think a silent release on a Friday would be the best way to do it. Put it up on the blog like all other beers, it would make it to the beer websites that night and people would be able to come up over the weekend to get some. But you wouldn't have hundreds of people skipping work and drinking it all before people that couldn't get the day off could even get there. This is from someone that got bottles and had two on tap after work on Monday, but I definitely feel for people that stopped in on Tuesday, figuring they could avoid the huge crowd, and couldn't get any.
