We got your hops!

Hey all,

So i wanted to make sure that you hop heads out there were happy.  So if you come into the Portsmouth Brewery right now and say ," Oh, I'll have the IPA."  Your server will respond, "Which one would you like?  We have four hop foward beers to choose from."

Project X w/ Sonnet is a new British hop variety that is out there.  The infro-web says that it is similar to Goldings which I can see from the soft earthiness of the hop.  But I am getting such a nice soft grass and soft citrus flavors as well.  The truth is everytime you sip this beer you get a diffrent hop flavor/aroma.  Take your tongue on a hop trip.

Whipper Snapper is a favorite of our patrons and myself.  This is a Session American IPA.  This Beer is easy to drink but has all the spicy/citrus flavors you are craving in a IPA.  Plus you can have a couple of them and not fall off your stool.

The Petite Enffronté is in the same vein as the Whipper.  This is a Session Belgian IPA.  This beer showcases the Sterling hop all the way though then finishing the beer with bitter and sweet orange peel .  The sterling comes though nice a fruity/spicy with the orange peel balancing enhancing the frutiy flavors of the Belgain yeast.  This one is drinking great right now!

Smuttynose Finestkind IPA...you guys know everything about this beer already right?  If not check it out here.

Tyler

Shift of the guest taps...

Hey all,

So I changed up the guest taps a bit this morning.  We had Smuttynose IPA replaced with the Firestone Walker Union Jack IPA and The great Rhythms Pale ale replaced by Smuttynose's Baltic Porter.

Smuttynose's Baltic is true to style, big and bold with some nice raisin and chocolate flavors with no roasted malt characteristics.  Such a great example of the style.  And since I had a few 1/2 bbls of it i thought it was time to get it on so you could enjoy with the cold nights we are having.

The Firestone Walker's Union Jack IPA is a great blend of American IPA and a British IPA.  Has all the hops you want from a "west" coast IPA with the sweet malt and the yeast character to back it all up.

Hope you enjoy!
Cheers,
Tyler

Tõlked see õlu on Uskumata!

Hey all,

New beer hit the taps yesterday...the Uskumata Saison.  This beer is an Estonian inspired farmhouse ale.  Estonia has lots of Juniper growing so we finished this 4.9% abv light bodied Rye Saison with locally foraged Juniper berries and boughs.  The rye malt gives that unique spicy flavor and the Juniper comes as a post nasal hint of piney/woods after the swallow.  The name Uskumata came when Tyler Sildve (assistant brewer, aka T2) father tried the beer out of the fermenter.  He was born in Estonia and exclaimed, "Tõlked see õlu on Uskumata!"  Which translates to, "This beer is amazing!"

Cheers,
Tyler

Ye Olde Stub Foot...

Hey all,

So yes there is a new beer on tap... The Old Stub Foot.   Old Stub Foot is a British Strong ale that we brewed in honor of the one footed pigeon who rules the roost out back of the brewery.  I have been stalking the back alley to try to take a picture to post on facebook...as of now... no luck.  The beer is a dark brown  ale that commands your attention.  Very nice residual sweetness and small hits of roasted malt give this beer some nice malt flavor that work well with the higher abv and the bready flavors from the British yeast and earthy flavors from the British hops.  Enjoy!

Cheers,
Tyler

"You ever skinned a Grizz Pilgrim?"...

Hey all,

I just got back from DC!  The Craft Brewers Conference was in our nations capitol this year.  What a great time was had by all.  We learned about Brewing techniques with Botanicals, The history to the IPA, New German hops that are growing right now, Different dry hopping techniques to mention a few of the seminares we made it to.  All the while we had the the Grizzly dryhoppng back at P-brew.  Since Tyler Silvde (T2 as some of you know him) was holding down the fort and crushing it while we were gone.  He got to slide the Grizzly to a serving tank just in time for you guys to get to try it before I could!

The stats on the Grizzly Imp. Pale is 7.8% abv with only 30 IBU's.  A very large percentage of the bitterness came from late hop additions giving it a smooth bitterness and tons of hop flavor.  We used every "mountain" hop variety we had in our cooler.  A mountain hop is, Cascade, Summit, Glacier to name a few.  Then the beer was dryhopped with the same blend of Cascade, Summit and Glacier to "peak" the hop aromatic.  It was in our fermenters under the working title Vertex Pale ale, but then the Movie Jeremiah Johnson popped into our head.  Now he was a Mountain Man!  But I am sure if we called it Jeremiah Mountian Imp. Pale ale it wouldn't have sounded as cool.  So we met half way and went with the Grizzly Imp. Pale Ale.

hope you enjoy!

cheers,
Tyler
