Boo ya!
I want to congratulate Anonymous for the correct answer for the 5 C's question. The hops used for the 5 C's are Columbus, Cascade, Centennial, Chinook and Crystal. Cluster was a great guess too though. But Cluster is more catty then Simco with a high co-humulone level, which comes off as a very harsh bitterness in the finished beer. OMG Cluster is such a 90’s hop!
And I thought we could keep it under the radar about what went on with the 4 musketeers. But if you do a goggle search for "Kabert" I am sure you will find it interesting.
Cheers,
Tyler

22-24% ABV? $1,000/bottle? Some pretty wild rumors out there. How did it taste? Any chance for the common folk to get a taste?
ReplyDeleteCool, I was pretty confident in my guess for the hops. My blogger account is Tony K, but I forgot my account password, so yea, thats why I'm using the anonymous alias. Speaking of bittering and hops..you guys should consider using Amarillo hops for bittering sometime (I'm sure you know this, but just mentioning it), I just made an excellent strong American pale ale homebrew using them in the bittering addition. Incredibly smooth bittering qualities, can be used as a great flavor and aroma hop too.

The 5 C’s is kick ass hoppy. I stack it up to any Hop bomb I have tried so far. Excellent brew guys, I will be back for more
ReplyDeleteHey Tyler - This may be a dumb question, but do you guys do any sort of Oktoberfest celebration (beyond the Octoberfest beer in the works of course)? I've only lived here since last December, so I've never experienced Portsmouth in the fall.
ReplyDeleteWhile your answering questions. What is this I hear, that the Dunkelwiezen is a blend this time. Did those De Struise Brew boys corrupt you that much in a day? LOL
ReplyDelete"They" took away the Brewer's Fest which was like an Oktoberfest and was held at Prescott Park in the Fall. It was awesome and was growing but Portsmouth said "No more"; just like they did with Amtrak service, Children's Museum, Aquarium, and recently the Smuttynose brewery. Instead Portsmouth is wooing the GAP, Banana Republic, and Hilton...Go figure. Don't get me wrong, I love Portsmouth but they are really doing their own community a disservice but nixing these things.
ReplyDeleteTony- We do use Amarillo, but more for a flavor/finishing hop. The alpha acids on the Amarillo’s are a bit low (in comparison to other hops we have to choose from) for us to use them as bittering. We have a few clean higher alphas to choose from so we can get more bang for our buck on the bittering side.
ReplyDeleteJoe-Yes the Dunkelwiezen is a blend this time around. Its a blend of our Black Cat and Hefewiezen. The Belgian’s do it all the time so we thought we would give it a shot. But I promise that we will have our smoked dunkel out in the fall and that will not be a blend and an amazing beer.
And the Guru- We will see what we can do for you. Maybe we will even get it on tap here. You are going to have to wait and see :)
Cheers,
Tyler
