Sour Beer!

Hey all,

Wanted to let you know that the sour mashing went well over the weekend. We have our Flanders (style) red in a fermenter and it is fermenting away. Smelling like fresh mangoes and pineapples with tropical fruits as well as hints of chocolate!! WHOA!! This is gonna be one crazy beer! Peace out!

  1. What category would the Flanders Red fit into?

  2. I'm not quite sure what you are asking about. But It would have fallen into Category 62 at GABF 2008. #68 is the Belgian Lambic or Sour Ale category, the Flanders being the latter of the two. I hope this answers your question. And keep an eye out on the blog here for when it goes on because I think it is going to be a great beer.

    Cheers,
    Tyler

  3. That does answer my question. Looking ahead my opinion is that I might now look forward to something possibly more exciting than the great Kate :) Thanks.

Hoping that there will be bottles, like there was/is for the Barleywine, when it comes to the Flanders Red.

  6. Matt,

Well traditional Flanders Red's are aged for a year. No worries you are not going to have to wait that long. We are going to give it about a month to two months to age before we put this one on. Though we do have something up our sleeves to play with this beer. :) Keep and eye out on the blog and I will let you know with the time is right.

    Cheers,
    Tyler
